Where my journey began...

I grew up in the Bellevue/Issaquah area of Washington state. I’ve been an athlete all of my life, with a 12+ years background in competitive swimming (national ranked) and water polo which ultimately lead to my career in teaching. After completing my 1st of many lifeguard certifications in 1999, I began instructing aquatic based classes at swimming pools, water parks and beaches through 2015.  My focus moved in the direction of land-based fitness in 2010. Practicing and teaching Vinyasa Yoga, mat Pilates, PiYo™ and TRX™ (Suspension Training) became my new passion. Then in 2014, my Stand Up Paddleboard journey began...

Why I love to SUP and how I discovered it...

I was a prone paddler for 10+ years when I was an open water lifeguard. For my 30th birthday (March 2014) I decided I wanted to take my yoga instructing to the next level. I signed up for a SUP Yoga Teacher Training with Bliss Paddle Yoga in Laguna Beach, CA. Before I attended the training I wanted to actually try SUP, so I went to the 2014 Outdoor Adventure Expo in Seattle and met Jeff Underwood from Kirkland (NW Paddle Surfers) and Corey Dolan from Tacoma (Dolan’s Board Sports).  There was a demo pool set up to where I was able to paddle and try yoga on their boards for hours. Corey invited me back the next day to be his “SUP Yoga demo girl”. At the conclusion of the event, Jeff and Corey offered my a position teaching SUP yoga for their rental business in the 2014 Summer season. I was stoked to already have 2 places to teach SUP Yoga that summer.

I completed my training in CA and simply fell in love with SUP.  Corey encouraged and motivated me to start racing and in April 2014 I did my first race and won! I was hooked and started paddling/ training everyday on a King’s board and with Kialoa paddle Corey provided to me.

Once the warm weather came, I started teaching outdoors in Kirkland and Tacoma, for Jeff and Corey May through September 2014, then moved to teaching SUP Yoga at indoor pools for the fall and winter. I was certified by Corey in PaddleFit level 1 & 2 October 2014, which really helped me to dial in my paddling technique for racing and become a better instructor.

In summer 2015 through 2018, my SUP seasons become more successful each year! I teach SUP Yoga, PaddleFlow® and PaddleFit lessons. I try to attend as many races as I can in WA, Idaho, Canada, and Oregon.  I have been working hard on expand my SUP business- Paddling Yogini LLC. I now have a fleet of boards for my rentals, lessons, and retreats. Last summer (2018), I collaborated with many yoga studios, fitness clubs and gyms to host events at various lakes in the Western WA area.

The body of water you’ll most likely find me on…

In the warmer months: Lake Sammamish, Rattlesnake Lake, Lake Washington, Beaver Lake, Puget Sound, and the Snoqualmie river. In the colder months, I move my SUP Fitness classes indoors to swimming pools at 4 different locations  near the lakes I teach on in the summertime. The pool classes allow me to teach students who would normally not want to get outside in the rain/snow/cold. We build up quite a sweat in the 90 degree pool environment.

What I do when I am not paddling...

I run my Yoga and TRX Training studio, One Mind Yoga- Issaquah that I opened in August 2017. I teach 25 classes a week of  Vinyasa Flow Yoga, TRX Suspension training, TRX Yoga Fusion and foam rolling classes. In the summer months, I offer outdoor SUP Fitness and in the Fall/Winter months I offer indoor land SUP classes.

What Certifications/Qualifications do I have...

I am a certified SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance™, a PaddleFit Core Coach (including water safety & rescue training) through PaddleFit™, a Gold PiYo™ (Pilates/yoga blend) Instructor through BeachBody™, and a TRX™ (suspension training) Instructor through Fitness Anywhere™. I took my 1st of many ARC Lifeguard certification in 1999, working at pools, waterparks, and beaches until 2015. In that time, I certified through ARC, YMCA and ALA Lifeguard Training Programs. I am a proud member of the American Swimming Coaches Association and Certified ASCA Swim Coach. I specialize in open water swim lessons and water safety/rescue. This will be my 6th summer teaching SUP classes and racing paddleboards all over the PNW. I have the knowledge and certifications to keep you safe on the water.

Most important fact about me...

I am a mother and a wife. I got married last July 2018 and  have 3 little yogis & SUP kids of my own. I have a 16 year old daughter who is an artist, writer and yogini, I have a 11 year old son who loves yoga, swimming, soccer and SUP. I have a newborn baby boy who has been on a paddleboard more than most before he took his first breath in this world and loves attending his mama’s postpartum yoga classes. They are my life and my motivation to excel in life!
